· "A Psychological interpretation of drawings and painting. The SSCA Method: A systems analysis approach". Zoltan Vass. Ed Alexandra (Hungary) 2012.
Another titanic work which delves into the history of the unknown: "Pictorial and psychopathological expression", an analytical essay and documentary by Claude Wiart (1967). With around 927 pages, 673 presentations of patients’ drawings and freer educational illustrations, and articles studied, Zoltan Vass shows us with clarity the seven stages to scientifically interpret any sort of images (drawings, paintings, doodles). After detailed work going from literature to expert practicians and clinics with artificial intelligence support, we are more objectively able to answer the following questions:
- How to use contexts, ie. the anamnesis and circumstances of the image’s emergence
2. How to discover the hidden aspects of the image by dynamically analysing the work’s processes
3. How to avoid/limit personal projections with an impartial and objective phenomenological description
4. How to carry out intuitive analysis based on facilitating and co-verifiable techniques (five features, perceptual focus, questioning attitude, etc.)
5. How to carry out a global and non microscopic analysis of the image
6. How to take into account the most important particular details
7. How to discover the essence of the image with a configuration analysis
All of this is based on an expert system’s modular arborescence. Undoubtedly such a procedure leads us to look at images in another light. Let’s hope that in the field art therapists will seize all of this in our societies where clients and employers constantly ask us to accelerate our approaches.
· "Penser l'art-thérapie". Jean-Pierre Klein. Ed PUF. 2012.
Although the author develops many original art therapy concepts, he articulates them with real hands)on insight and high level critical analysis.
· "Le grand livre de l'art-thérapie". Angela Evers. Ed Eyrolles. 2012.
A second edition, amongst other things enriched with a chapter on "Art therapy and cancer", further contributes to make this work a true reference manual.
· "Jeu, transfert et psychose. De l'illusion théâtrale à l'espace thérapeutique". Patricia Attigui. Ed Dunod. 2012.
This book envisages the therapeutic dimension of artistic practices according to three basic operators: game, transitional space and malleable medium. Essential to better apprehend psychoses and extreme states, they provide the specific framework for any research into transfero-contretransferential phenomena. Therapeutical measures can no longer be based on the classic protocol of restricting motricity or perception at the risk of damaging the ability to symbolise. They should rather be based on sensoriality and aesthetic sensitivity. Theatre mediation, explained here, reflecting fifteen years of experience dramatizing in psychiatric environments, offers to help clinicians draw up conceptual frameworks which, whether from a group or individual perspective, are supported by the patient’s aptitude for fun and aesthetics with a view to an initial form of symbolisation.
Reporting a specific experience in the field of psychotherapy helps to theorize the different ways of expressing psychological states: such is the purpose of this book which takes into account recent clinical developments and details the metapsychological stakes encountered in the singularity of practices.
· "Tableaux depuis la profondeur de l'âme". István Hárdi. Ed Litteratura Medica, Szentgotthárd Collection. Budapest. 2012.
After the introductions, the chapter deals with the history of the psychopathology of expression and art therapy in the world and in Hungary. It is followed by a description of art therapy practices at the Szentgotthárd Centre of Rehabilitation for Psychiatric Patients. The works contains productions by 14 artistically gifted patients.
· "Psychothérapie de soutien". Professeur Laurent Schmitt. Ed. Elsevier-Masson, Collection Pratiques en psychothérapie, 2012.
The book starts with the fact that support psychotherapy is the most widely spread form of psychotherapy and often the least described. It is reserved for difficult cases, such as depression, alcoholism, schizophrenia, personality disorders, anxiety or serious illness. What it is and how it is used is rarely explained. This work answers these questions explaining the theoretical basis of support psychotherapy and presenting the tools, strategies and contexts in which it is exercised. Indications on the content and number of sessions are also provided by hands-on clinicians, experts in their field and experienced in difficult situations.
Therapists confronted with supporting their patients will find help in this book.
